What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is wonderfully relaxing! It is a form of neurolinguistic retraining of the brain to help it respond differently to old triggers, and to break negative patterns of response that tend to wreak havoc in your life. There is a degree of mindfulness involved, and certainly a focus on learning a new perspective, and maintaining that perspective, in order for the degree of your emotion to be in appropriate alignment with the stressor; versus your reaction to be colored or triggered by the past, resulting in excessive response, pain, dread, shame or embarrassment. Sometimes it can be difficult to realize you have been triggered until much later. Hypnotherapy is a wonderful aid to help you plan your coping strategy proactively.
THE PROCESS
The process starts with an honest, in-depth discussion about your goals and expectations, with a frank discussion as to what is believed to be possible. So many have a “Hollywood” fantasy about hypnosis or hypnotherapy. It helps to discuss the reality, that it is a progressive process, and not a one-session miracle. Many clients get substantial relief within 2-3 months, or 4-5 sessions. Others, with perhaps some amnesia related to triggers, might need more (amnesia is the mind’s way of coping, and is quite common). Clients enjoy the stabilizing effect the scripts give them, as well as the regular check-ins!
Carol offers sessions on a sliding scale, always with a view to making this work accessible, given she does not accept health insurance. Costs to you are kept low given she gives you the tools to help yourself at home. All recordings are yours to keep, to continue using as needed. You are only billed for the session time, not the recordings!
The second session, (and beyond), is to review response to a pre-hypnotic script that is sent to you via Google Drive® (or other), which teaches you how to completely relax, let go and release tension, and to allow your mind to rest. Mindfulness and perspective are reviewed related to very specific current situations and relationships, before another script is issued. Each script is tailored to you and your needs! This progresses to add a “sensory” layer, allowing your imagination to tap into your memory of things you see, hear, smell, taste and feel as you engage in imagery. Moving out of your “thinking brain,” into your “feeling brain,” allows your subconscious to feel safe, to drop down its guard, and to permit reprogramming to commence!
And remember, you will be doing this in the safety of your home. Somewhat like an “onion ring,” each script gently peels back another layer to expose what is at the heart of the emotional triggers you so desire to “dilute, dial down or eradicate.” Journaling is strongly encouraged, including review of your insights at each session. Therapy flows easier when you are in trance, which is what happens while you listen to the sessions.
An ongoing goal is also to increase your sense of personal compassion, forgiveness and kindness. Positive suggestions are included so that your subconscious hears them without your guard being up, without rebuttal, with pure trust that you are safe.
